Mommyfeels favorite: Baby wearing

babywearing

Baby wearing is definitely an activity for me! An activity and, may I say, a workout in itself. Especially when my 3 month old baby weighs 15lbs. and my 18 month old weighs 25 lbs. Carrying them while walking around is definitely a workout. I always wear my babies. I may not be capable of wearing them both at the same time, but if i could I would! Continue reading

There’s a new Belasco in town!

noahpic

“Hello world!” from, the newest addition to my favourite family, baby Noah Nehemiah Yunon Belasco! Isn’t he precious??? My heart melted the day I saw him for the first time, it was like I was being brought back to the time Kheira was just born. I had forgotten how tiny they are the first few weeks out. He was longer though! 21 inches at birth to be exact. Coming from two towering parents; one a professional basketball player, Nic Belasco and a beauty queen, Mafae Belasco Continue reading

Hi Ninang Aileen!

*’Ninang’ (n.) is Tagalog((Filipino) for Godmother.

Now that we’ve established that – it’s another first for Kheira! #KheiraDelviFirsts She has officially met every one of her Dad’s-dad’s family! Did that make any sense? After the rush of the holidays, we weren’t quite ready to settle down and put our feet up just yet… there was another visitor we were anticipating to see! “Hi Ninang Aileen! It was great to finally meet you!”

6 months with a new whip!

It’s time! While Kheira is still learning to crawl – Nana (what my mum decided for her to be called by Kheira) bought Kheira her first walker for her 6 months! HAPPY 6 MONTHS Love! I know its suppose to be crawling first before walking, but it is positively cute! I love the face she makes when she sees something new, shiny or full of lights. The amazement in her face and the was she looks at me – if she could talk she would’ve said, “Mommy what is this amazing thing??!?”

Kheira’s Dedication

KDBanner
What is a dedication? A lot of people ask me that question when they found out that Kheira will not be baptised but rather she will be ‘Dedicated’.
For those who do not know what a child dedication is, it is – literally – the act of dedicating. Ha! Bet you didn’t know that lol (just kidding). In this case, we are dedicating my child to Jesus Christ. As a Christian, I chose to do this because I believe that one should know when and what it means to be baptised by the Holy Spirit. I chose to dedicate Kheira to Jesus Christ to show our family, friends and community that my husband and I will be responsible parents taking on to bring Kheira up in the fear the Lord, in faith and teach her how to live life, the best way we can, as a good Christian and servant of the Lord.

Meeting Ninang(Godmother) Chloe

I, for one, am not good at keeping secrets. I’m like a ticking bomb. For the most part to those whom I’m very close with, i.e. my husband. We’ve known each other and have been friends for so long we’ve come to tell each other everything. Even the boring noting of our everyday lives. Especially now that we’re married, I find it hard to keep things from him. So, imagine my surprise when my father-in-law gave me information on the biggest secret from my husband and mother-in-law I had to keep for about 2 months. His only sibling and sister, Chloe, is coming to the Philippines to visit us. It was the secret of the century for me. It was a mission!

Love your bones Bloggers event by Pfizer and Caltrate Plus

lyb.event-e

Did you know that there is a World Osteoporosis Day? It is celebrated every 20th of October. And it has been celebrated since 1997! Last October 29, 2010 I was invited to a Pfizer event called “Love Your Bones

lyb.event-g

Its pretty self explanatory and I could not have agreed more. As a full time mom and with a growing baby I need all the strength I can get!

They actually had a bone measurement device that allowed them to check and give you an estimated report on your bone density (fyi bone density means the amount of minerals in your bones). Results would say if your bones are in normal state or if they find a that you are in risk of having osteoporosis. I had mine done and if you would think that a 24-year old like me would have strong bones at a young age, you’re wrong!

If you didn’t notice, in the result findings, they ticked that I my result was Osteopenia. What is Osteopenia, you ask me? I didn’t know at first, but it said ‘Osteo’ on the word itself so I knew it wasn’t too good. It meant that my bone mineral density is lower than normal. In short, I may or may not be a candidate for osteoporosis. Which makes sense, because I remember when I was a kid I ALMOST had to wear a back brace. Thank goodness my mum got into sports and yoga, and not have to go through that! Whew!

Me with host Andi Manzano (center) and co-mommy and blogger Mafae Belasco (left).

The event was very informative. It was hosted by the lovely Ms Andi Manzano (If you haven’t seen her baby Olivia you have to, follow her ig @oliviareyes) We had a little live cooking show from the chef’s of Holiday Inn, Makati that showed us how to easily make quiche at home. Quiche?? Yes quiche. It is a great snack/meal to make at home for the family that is packed with the food group that is good for our bones. What’s great about a good quiche is you can customized what you wanna put in it. Yummy!

Quiche

Finished product! Délicieux!

There were other speakers such as Ms. Ana (bikhram yoga expert and teacher) who was kind enough to show us a few yoga moves/stretches that we can easily do at home and in our own time to prevent this silent killer (Osteoporosis). Why silent? Well according to Dra. Julie osteoporosis is considered a silent killer. Nobody knows their actual bone density state, and for all you know you have it already. She has some patients who accidentally slip and has broken their hip, spine fractures, and some who just cough and breaks their bone because they’re so weak and brittle. Anything can happen at any given time. That is why this campaign was created, to spread awareness.

As I was saying, as a mom with a growing baby, I need all the strength I can get. With knowing that I may or may not be a candidate for osteoporosis is scary! Prevention is key! I still need to carry Kheira everywhere we go (I know I don’t have to but I love to lol) Baby-wearing can take its toll on your back as well as breastfeeding. Thanks to Caltrate Plus I can have that prevention. I was taking Caltrate Plus as well when I was pregnant, I just need to be consistent this time! I have an upcoming toddler and I still need to run around with her! We still have a load of playtime to conquer and a lot of carrying her and CARING for her. Mommy needs to be strong and healthy for all of that!
