Mommy Feels Fail #2: Wear baby mittens at all times!

Here we go again… another #MommyFeelsFail I never  thought it would happen so soon. Well, sooner than I was hoping. Another MOMMY FAIL! This time there was more blood. Blood everywhere! Blood…

The husband wakes me up early friday morning (like 4am early) in panic. It was like a CSI Crime scene. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Well a dried blood type of crime scene. It had been long since the tragedy happened.

MommyFeels Fail #1: Baby Grooming

header2header1  header3header4

Newbie mum alert!! I think i was anticipating my first mommy fail too much and it has arrived.

I’m not talking about spills, or putting baby clothes on the wrong way – I’m talking about those mommy fails that makes your heart drop and ALMOST call 911. I said almost, please don’t tell me I over react. Though I know I did quite a bit. I was panicking so much  I cried a little bit. I’m not talking about a tear, I literally cried.

So, I’ve been a mom for (exactly) three months and nine days i think i was too confident this time around when I was grooming Kheira. Grooming her in a sense that, we were doing our normal afternoon routine; took a nice bath, getting her all dressed up and brushing her hair when I noticed a scratch on her face. Its the time of the week where her nails grew long enough to scratch her face and actually cut her with them.

Its not so visible in the picture. I took this one when it was already about to heal. She had 3 scratches; one on the right cheek, on her lil’ button nose and a long one along her left cheek (didn’t get to take a picture though, because it was the first one to heal). So the story goes on, as I badly needed to cut her nails already, I used the nail cutter that came from a gift set of baby grooming kit.

My lil’ baby grooming kit from Safety First. It has a comb, soft brush, safety scissors, cute lil’ nail files and the small nail cutter that has a special handle for mommies to hold onto.

I’ve actually cut her nails using this particular nail cutter a few times already. I guess I just felt a lil confident. So this is me telling you guys NOT TO BE TOO CONFIDENT. EVER. NEVER. EVER. I feel absolutely horrible that, as I said, I cried.

I didn’t just nip a finger. I nipped two. Mommy guilt punched me hard in the face and I cried when she cried, which did not help. I kissed her little fingers to try to make things better – which surprisingly worked. My little champ was such a sport after I kissed her boo-boos she automatically loved me again

Keeping a note that kissing boo-boos is a must!

Throughout the day every time I saw the lil’ cuts I made on her finger I would tear up. There it was again, Mommy guilt. It wasn’t Kheira who was crying, it was mommy. Let’s all keep in mind that, as a new mom, we will make mistakes. This one I’m not so proud of, because it was her first boo-boo and it was mommy’s fault! *hides behind hands* But at the end of the day everything is a learning process. Especially motherhood. I’m already twenty-four and my mum tells me that she’s still learning everyday. I’m now in her shoes and I couldn’t agree more.

More things to come, more things to learn! I’m scared, excited, ecstatic, anxious, and happy all at the same time! Oh the joy of motherhood!

Be a blessing to others! xx

Breast is Best!

SwingPump

I want you all to meet my new best friend – my Medela Swing Pump! My lil’ bundle of joy is here and I just can’t get enough of giving her all the nutrients and vitamins from my breastmilk.

You should know that there are a lot of information out there regarding breastfeeding, and all of them has wonderful things to say about it. There may be people who will tell you about the downside/ disadvantages of it, but its mostly towards the mother and not the baby. And its usually superficial, i.e. sore breasts, cracked nipples, or the pain being unbearable blah blah blah – Just always remember: breastfeeding isn’t for you. It’s for your little miracle!

I, for one, is ecstatic about breastfeeding. Two best things about it (in my opinion is) It’s Nature’s BEST and IT’S FREE! You don’t have to spend for the BEST milk God has given you to provide for your little one. It was so amazing seeing her latch for the very first time. I swear I thought she read a manual, while inside my belly, on ‘how to get milk from mommy’s breast’. She was my lil’ pro!

I’m so grateful for my new friend, Maricel Cua of The Parenting Emporium (formerly known as Medela House). They have been helping me throughout my breastfeeding adventure.

Though we did have our ups and downs, starting with the first week my Kheira came home. She suddenly wasn’t latching on me AT ALL. Like she totally forgot how to breastfeed after being in the hospital. This went on for the whole week. I was very sad and heartbroken. I thought that that was it and she was done! It hasn’t even been at least a month!

Because of the help and support of Maricel, and the rest of the Parenting Emporium family I learned a lot from their breastfeeding workshop/seminar. Plus they really help you out even with the most ludicrous questions you have in mind. It’s amazing how much they can teach you and what you can learn from them. I highly recommend going there and experiencing it first hand.

I would elaborate every single thing I learned from them, but that would just save you guys the adventure of actually sitting down and absorbing all the information yourself. Plus, it’s a good way to also educate your husbands/ partners in this experience. Yes, they need to be there! The dads also need to know their part in breastfeeding. He will be your best support system in time of need. Sometimes information overload can happen and when its too much for you- he can be the other half of your brain. Well, in my case that was where my fiancé stepped in and I’m glad he was there to be part of it as well. I believe it made him understand more of what I’m going through with the process of pregnancy.

Thank you Medela Philippines (Maricel and Beng)  for helping me with my first ever breastfeeding experience! Still going strong because of you guys! ♥

Remember to always get fitted so that when you’re pumping it fit right and its comfortable because those are key into giving your baby your breastmilk for a longer term! ♥

If any of you reading this, residing in the Manila, Philippines, and you are embarking on your breastfeeding journey I highly recommend checking them out for yourself. Any questions or want to have more information about breastfeeding;  schedule a visit at The Parenting Emporium ( formerly known as The Medela House/Moms) They also offers classes for first-time mommies (like me!), breastfeeding 101, lamaze classes, and many more! How excited were you when you found out you were having a baby? Yeah. Well I wasn’t. This isn’t the best intro in the world, but that was reality. I’m 24 and having a baby. It wasn’t exactly in my life plan. It took a while for me to wrap my head around it. I’m so thankful for, my boyfriend at that time, husband who has been my main support through all this.
